Talking Internet

Okay, people, if we're not all verrrrrry careful, we could lose the Internet in the next two to five years!

Geeky explanation department: Intel's co-founder Gordon Moore predicted - way back in 1965 - that the number of transistors that could be fit onto a circuit board would double exponentially every two years. A colleague went on to post a theorem that those transistors would double in performance every 18 months. Together, this became known as "Moore's Law" in the computer industry. And now our electronics are so powerful that we are broadbanding more and more content through the Internet and the computers that host all this stuff are not, apparently, up to the task unless the people who own them pony up about $137 billion to upgrade the infrastructure. Which is more than double what they are planning on spending.

So until they do, here's my plan: if your last name begins with A through G, you get to be online from 6:00 a.m. to noon. Last names beginning with H through M will check the web from noon to 6:00 p.m. I think you can figure out the rest...sorry to those of you at the back end of the alphabet who get to pull the midnight shift.

IF THE INTERNET COULD TALK....

"01000101 01100001? 0111010! Get it? 0111010!!"

"Your next door neighbor says 'thanks for the wireless!' "

"Oh, c'mon, haven't you memorized this page yet? You've only been here about 200 times!"

"No, please don't upgrade your monitor. I can see enough of you as it is."

"You say you love me for my wealth of knowledge, but all you do is play poker!"
