Memorials
On September 10th the city of Peoria is naming a street in honor of Dan and his family. It starts at the corner of Prospect and Frye, where the "grocery store" that provided the inspiration for "Same Old Lang Syne" is. The street continues downward to Woodruff High, where Dan and his brothers went to school and their father was bandleader. It is known as Abington Street but now the honorary designation will be "Fogelberg Parkway". (http://www.pjstar.com/news/x1903521324/Street-to-bear-Fogelberg-name) The unveiling is being held a few days prior to the Fall Music Festival at Glen Oak Park celebrating Dan's music.
Efforts are also underway to create a memorial on Grandview Drive, where Dan spent many days looking out over the river, writing and daydreaming. If the Grandview Drive proposal doesn't win approval, other park-like settings will be lobbied for. We'll keep you informed. Thanks to Hugh Higgins and his group for their efforts.
Tribute Concerts
The Living Legacy tribute concert is going to be postponed until spring, when more musicians' schedules can be accommodated. It will be merged with the tribute concert and proposed CD being organized by Irving Azoff. We are not sure about location yet, that will be determined by the promoters, but possibly Nashville, where Dan lived, played, and recorded for a number of years.
Deborah is the web and artistic director for the DF Tribute Concert Benefitting PCF that is being held in Amarillo, Texas October 23rd at the new state of the art Globe News Center. She and Laurie will be attending the event to help celebrate Dan's musical legacy. Please come out and help honor Dan and say hello to the Living Legacy web directors. There will also be DF/PCF pins sold at the concert.
Prostate Cancer Foundation
Thanks to all of you for your donations, for downloading "Sometimes A Song", and for buying the "Quest" lapel pin. Donations in Dan's memory have exceeded $50,300.00. To date, downloads of "Sometimes A Song" have raised over $7,000.00, and the "Quest" lapel pin has raised over $18,510.00. That's more than $75,800.00 raised in Dan's name to further research, education, and awareness. You're the best.
"Over Peoria"
We're glad so many of you downloaded Robert McEntee's beautiful tribute to Dan, and that you liked his music enough to order more recordings and sign up for his mailing list. They are using "Over Peoria" in the radio spots for the Fall Music Festival in Peoria.
A Note from Jean
Deb, Laurie and I appreciate your responses to The Living Legacy newsletter, as well as your comments about the DF and LL websites - they encourage us and keep us moving forward in the right direction. Besides the newsletter responses, I have received hundreds of cards, letters, offers and personal requests. I am so grateful for your words of support, comfort and wisdom, and for sharing your memories and your moving caregiver stories. While I am touched by the offers of recording projects, books, ceremonies, and tributes, please understand that I simply can't reply. Your offers, requests and CDs will stay safely stored until life settles down.
